Ashe County Planning Board Brief
The Ashe County Planning Board met in regular session Thursday, Aug. 7, at the county courthouse with a light agenda consisting mostly of plat approvals.



Speed Limit Ordinance Approved for West Jefferson Streets
The West Jefferson Board of Alderman approved an ordinance to install speed limit signs on 20 streets in downtown West Jefferson that will lower the speed limit to 20 miles per hour during their regular meeting on Thursday night.



Catawissa to Close Plant in October
Catawissa Lumber & Specialty Company, Inc., will be permanently closing their West Jefferson plant on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The plant has been open since the 1960s (though it was purchased by Catawissa in 1995) and currently employs 67 people.

Ashe Children's Trust Endowment Awards Grants
The Ashe County Children's Trust Endowment has awarded three grants to benefit Ashe County children this year: $1,300 to the Ashe County Friends of Agriculture, $800 to the 4-H Ashe Youth Connection and $400 to the Ashe County 4-H Homeschool Club.
