Residents of West Jefferson will have their chance to
voice their opinion on whether or not West Jefferson should
have an ABC store and sale of liquor by the drink.

The Ashe County 4-H School Age Care Program has
received a national JC Penney Afterschool Fund Grant for
the 4-H Westwood Afterschool Program.

Meeting
Approximately 35 members of the Greater Lansing Area
Development Committee (GLAD) gathered at the Lansing Volunteer
Fire Department on October 30 to discuss plans for the town.

veterans during a ceremony Nov. 10 at 7:30 a.m. next to
the B.B. Dougherty Administration Building on campus.

Tax Office Employee Charged With Embezzlement
A former
employee of the Ashe County Tax Office is facing charges
in Ashe County District Court relating to the allegdged
embezzlement of $30,150.45 from the Tax Office, according
to Detective William Sands of the Ashe County Sheriff's
Office.

Income Energy Assistance Program Begins Nov. 6th
Applications for a once per year fuel assistance
check will be taken at the Ashe County Department of Social
Services (in the new County Courthouse in Jefferson) beginning
Nov. 6 through Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through
Friday.
Seniors
Can Make Changes Or Sign Up In Medicare Program
Seniors who missed the May 15th deadline to sign up for
Medicare Part D or who are unhappy with their current Medicare
Health Plan can enroll or make changes beginning Nov. 15th
and ending Dec. 31st.
Red Cross
Urges Thanksgiving Blood Donations
As fall rustles in with beautifully colored leaves
and chilly nights, preparations begin for the upcoming holidays
and the American Red Cross is doing its best to prevent
the blood shortages that often accompany the holiday season.
