I’m not sure if there are too many people in America who will shed genuine tears for the passing of 2004. Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson enjoyed overnight celebrity for no apparent reason, some of our most beloved sports heroes were found to be cheats, and after a bitterly divisive presidential election everyone decided that they would rather embrace their philosophical differences than try to do anything about them.

In short, it is totally understandable if most folks want to get 2004 behind them.

That said, it looks like lots of people will be out in force on December 31st to usher in 2005. New Year’s Eve, after all, is on a Friday night this year.
